Read the ladder, not the total
Look down the per-person column and the story is the vehicle. Two people pay ₹12,538 each for two nights; twelve people pay ₹9,567 each for the same nights and the same sightseeing, because a tempo traveller costs less than six sedans. Hotel, meals and entry fees are flat per head and barely move the average. This is why couples should compare against honeymoon packages rather than family ones, and why splitting a group of twelve into three sedans costs about ₹3,600 more overall and leaves you shepherding three drivers around a hairpin road.
The second thing the ladder shows is that the third night is cheap. Going from two nights to three adds about ₹4,600 a head for a couple, ₹4,100 for a family of four and ₹3,700 for a group of twelve — almost all of it hotel and food, because the expensive part, getting the vehicle up and down the ghat, has already been paid. What 'Ooty package from ₹6,500' actually means
Those hooks are real prices for real products, and the product is a one-night, two-day trip on twin sharing at a property nobody names, with the vehicle released after the drop. They are advertised beside photographs of three-night itineraries. Nothing in that is illegal; it simply answers a different question from the one you asked.
The test is to price the same trip three ways. Ask for the hotel by name. Ask whether the vehicle stays with you or leaves after drop-off. Ask what is excluded. On a genuinely comparable 2N/3D for four people in a mid-range hotel, the honest market answer in 2026 is between ₹9,000 and ₹14,000 per head, which is where our ₹10,713 sits. Anything under ₹7,000 has removed a night, a star rating or the car.
Where to cut, and where cutting ruins the trip
Worth cutting
- Travel in February or November instead of April — the same trip, 25 to 35% cheaper
- Fill the vehicle: six in an Innova instead of four saves about ₹700 a head
- Skip the room-decor and candlelight add-ons; the hotel charges more than they cost
- Book second class on the toy train at ₹140–295 — the view from first class at ₹600–1,100 is identical

- The second night. One night from anywhere except Coimbatore is a wasted journey
